Product Update #10870: CFA635 series Hardware revision 1.5
    Products Affected: CFA635-TFK-KL, CFA635-TFK-KS, CFA635-TFK-KU, CFA635-TML-KL, CFA635-TML-KS, CFA635-TML-KU, CFA635-YYK-KL, CFA635-YYK-KS, CFA635-YYK-KU, XES635BK-TML-KU, XES635BK-TFK-KU, XES635BK-YYK-KU
    Date Issued: August 14, 2017
Summary: CFA635 series Hardware revision 1.5
    Last revision: 1.2
Description: The CFA635 series of advanced display modules have been changed from the previous hardware revision 1.2 to the new hardware revision 1.5.
Reason: As part of our continuous improvement, the processor and PCB layout have been changed to improve availability, manufacturability and quality.
Impact: The revised CFA635 series has Wide Temperature (-20°C to +70°C) operating range. Part numbers have changed accordingly:
TMF series modules have been renamed TML series.
TFE series modules have been renamed TFK series.
YYE series modules have been renamed YYK series.

The revised CFA635 series now supports a single FBSCAB instead of a SCAB:
All four fans may be used on serial (-KS) and logic level (-KL) modules.
The maximum number of temperature sensors supported is 16.
The ATX power supply control functions previously supported by J8 on the SCAB are now supported by H1 on the CFA-635.

The power supply and backlight circuits have been improved:
The backlight driver is a constant current design—the backlight current and brightness are now insensitive to supply voltage variations.

The backlight design has been improved – you may notice that the backlights appear brighter.

The incoming power supply range is 2.5v to 5.5v, so the CFA635 can easily be used in 3.3v systems.

The yellow backlight of the CFA635-YYK series has been redesigned to improve brightness.

The USB VID/PID have changed. The new values are: 0x223B/0x000B . This change impacts the USB host computer drivers:

USB Drivers for Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, and 8.1 have changed. The correct driver is Crystalfontz CDC ACM
USB Driver for Windows 10 and later has changed. The correct driver is Crystalfontz USB Serial
USB Driver for Linux has changed. The correct driver is Kernel USB CDC ACM Driver
USB Device filename for Linux has changed. The correct device filename is /dev/ttyACMxx

If your Windows or Linux host OS is up to date, it should automatically select the correct driver.

    The mechanical dimensions are unchanged.

Some commands are slightly different. Please refer to the Firmware v2.1 PUN for more information.

Recommendation: Design changes have been made to maximize backward compatibility.

If your application uses ATX power supply control, fan control, or temperature measurement through the SCAB, you will need to change to the equivalent FBSCAB components and cables.

We recommend testing the new version CFA635 in your system to verify compatibility.

Command 19 (0x13) Set up Temperature Reporting (FBSCAB Required)
Command 20 (0x14) Arbitrary DOW Transaction (FBSCAB Required)
Since the DOW devices are now connected to the FBSCAB, thee maximum number of DOW devices that can be read is the FBSCAB's limit of 16 devices.
Recommendation: Design changes have been made to maximize backward compatibility. For most applications, the CFA635 firmware revision v2.1 will be a form and fit replacement.

If your application uses ATX power supply control, fan control, or temperature measurement through the SCAB, you will need to change to the equivalent FBSCAB components and cables.

We recommend testing the new version CFA635 in your system to verify compatibility.
